Curious things I've noticed here

-Environmentally conscious things like low flow toilets and garbage separation

-Environmentally challenging things like wrapping EVERYTHING in plastic 3 times over

- Oddly poetic translations of signs into English

-Vending machines - Everywhere

-Television shows that revolve around eating and making people guess different odours

-Public drinking: the woman on the train holding her Louis Vuitton purse in one hand and extra tall Asahi beer in the other

-People spontaneously speaking English around me to see if I notice

-How foreigners avoid eachother like the plague - Oh no! Gaijin! Hide!

-How many big brands make random things: Sanyo toothpaste, Panasonic bikes

-How quickly foreign men get over the whole school girl outfit

-The bakery next to my place I can all and say: Ohayoo gozaimasu, bagett-o?

-The city vans that announce which garbage day we are go around playing ice cream truck music, I pull out my wallet in futility every time!

There will be more posts!

Sorrrrrry for the retardedness

I'm in my city, Kuwana. Also, I live in the getto, I literally live on the other (wrong) side of the tracks. Melissa likes it because she says it's exciting and then she adds "but no, really it's scary". So that is why I always leave a light on when I leave because I don't want to come home to darkness. I did laundry today and aired out my futon. I have also recuperated my lost adapter! True to Japanese nature no one stole it or moved it. I have been trying to be less carefree because I sincerely believe i could leave my laptop here right now, go for a walk around the mall and no one would touch it. In fact, I think someone might even clean it. Ok I'm exagerating, but my point has been made. I miss some things about home but I haven't been completely homesick yet. There are always people to meet and places to see so the only days I stayed in were to nurse a cold I had at the beginning of the week. For the cold I blame the bipolar weather, it's hot and humid one day and the next it rains. Can't wait for winter, oh yes minus 2 degrees and I'll pull out a scarf! My friend Melissa is buying winter boots tomorrow, I think I'll call my sneakers winter boots.
Besides settling in there isn't much else to write here. Like I tell some people, I make a million mental notes every day but it's not something I can sit and write about. When I see a beautiful scene I almost want to keep it to myself so as to not diminish it in any way. Hmm, I'm starting to sound a little too poetic for my taste. Pictures will be added when I have the internet at home. So in about a month. There are some on facebook and for those of you without that particular social networking tool (ahem, Steve) then use someone else's account (ahem, Dan or Marjo)

Blog ya later fellow dorks!

Arrived and safe

I arrived over a week ago and a million things have happened. Today's my first real day off and I don't know what to do first. Training is brutal but I gave my first class yesterday and managed to not burst into tears. Ok maybe I went into the bathroom and quietly wept for 5 minutes but then I was fine. I have to go and find food because the downside of staying at a hotel is that I have no kitchen and restaurant food starts to affect your brain juices. I've been mean lately :(
Shall post more soon!

trois dodos..

It's cold, gray and wet outside. I haven't packed an iota of anything and all I wanna do is curl up on the couch with a book. I'm typing in the kitchen in a quiet house. Anyone who's been to my house will know that peace is a rare thing. It's nice but weird, almost like there's a catch. My mission is to finish packing by tomorrow night so that I can take it easy for a couple of days.
Now I'm making small talk on my computer, 'tis a sign to stop typing and to drink my coffee.
Toodles!

19 days until take-off

About 8 months ago I decided I needed a change of scenery. I had finished my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and wanted nothing to do with it for a little while. So I took a teaching Certification Course and then poof I was certified! I wanted to go to Eastern Europe but then decided to take a completely different course. So Japan it is! I shipped myself off to Toronto a couple of times, went through a few interviews with different schools, made some friends and was finally hired by iTTTi Japan. I went through all the steps to get the working visa and to work out things here and it still wasn't getting to me that I was leaving. Friends talk to me about it but I always think they're talking about someone else.... I'm leaving-me! Panic! Ah! Ok, ok, friends to see, things to buy...everything will be fine, right?

Um, yeah! So welcome to the evolution of what will probably be the deterioration of my sanity.

Enjoy!
